Political and topical news and commentary
...for being able to put my thoughts and frustrations into e-print!

I virtually fell into the role of "Motoring Scribe" when we produced a small camp newsletter in the mountains of Lesotho (a small Kingdom surrounded by South Africa), in 1992.
I like motor cars and read a lot about them so it was a natural thing then (anyway I co-edited the mag/newsletter so I could choose my slot!). Imagine a construction camp at
3000 metres high, very cold, at times snowed in (yes, in Africa), and imagine too, a large family of 300 souls dedicated to building a water transfer tunnel and you can see why our
little newsrag was eagerly awaited---never mind that a newspaper in Lesotho is virtually unheard of. My motoring column was quite popular as was all the regular camp gossip. It
was the start of my writing career (albeit very humble with zilch training!), and I continued with my motoring slots in two newspapers in the Lowlands
(still within sight of my beloved Maluti Mountains). I became pigeon-holed as a motoring writer (limited circulation), with a fair knowledge of the comings and goings of the industry,
but with "little flair!"

My job does not depend on writing so I could indulge myself and continue writing when I moved to war-torn Angola in 1999. I am not a war correspondent or fluent enough
in Portuguese to write for "Jornal De Angola" so I started blogging . I still maintain a motoring blog and I have a blog about living in Cairo (moved here in July 2006), and of course,
there is JU . The enjoyment of writing commentary for JU (at times drivel), instils my faith in the fact that I can get some sort of message across (including frustrating
observations about the state of the World today), and still be writing. For that's what we enjoy most---posting our thoughts and feelings.

Writing is a catharsis at times.  I guess that is why most of us are here.  Just to unload that which we feel the need to put into print.
