...but I have some worries.
It is all very well for Tony Blair to say his party has moved Britain forward. His sidekick, Mr Broon (sic), has praised himself and his party for wonders done for the aged, disabled, the unemployed, the old age pensioners, companies, the NHS et al. His new vote-grabbing budget sounds attractive to many.
And they, (Labour),have done wonders. I truthfully believe that Britain (bringing down unemployment deserves major kudos), is on the right course---in some areas. However, there are some things in Britain that worry me greatly and the future looks grim.
I'm talking about social behaviour. This seems to be one area that deserves far more attention. Consider these facts:
* In football we are known for our football thug mentaility.
* We are equally famous for our binge drinking on weekends and holidays.
* 15 percent of schoolgoers are regular truants.
* 15 percent of teenagers and young adults think foul language is trendy and use it abusively towards their seniors.
* Sex is regarded as a "casual shag" and teenage pregnancies are on the rise.
* Areas such as Birmingham and Manchester contain members of communities committed to crime and gangsterism.
* Areas of Britain (Nottingham is an example), have crime levels so large that police cannot cope.
* Vandalism is caused by children as young as ten years old and it is is increasing.
* And, this is the most worrying:children, youths and young adults deliberately target older people with abuse, vandalism and an unholy, almost evil, desecration of their rights and lives.
The aura of respect for others left long ago and I would suggest that, despite the substance abuse officers, the discipline officers , the empathetic social workers, the school discipline centres, the learning assistance centres and all the other money-sucking measures that are in place to bring Britain to heel, that a new direction is needed.
I confess that I do not know all the answers but I suspect that many lazy, slovenly, pleasure seeking, spoilt, socially assisted, ignorantly comfortable, utterly irresponsible parents, are to blame.
And I wish they would wake up!
