The DRC is dying.
Published on March 3, 2005 By adnauseam In Politics
What is the World going to do about the DRC? Today, Medecins Sans Frontieres, a group of doctors providing medical help in the DRC and many other countries, has released details about mass rapes in the Northern Provinces near Uganda and Rwanda. Another news release this week mentions murders, torture and rape of the Congolese people. Perpetrators are "troops", "rebels" "Militia" and "God knows who else".

I, and countless others, have nagged relentlessly about the continuing bloodbath in the DRC. When the figures are counted, Rwanda will look like a hiccup. What happened in Rwanda? The UN was powerless, undermanned and not farsighted enough to prevent that mess. What is happening in the DRC? The same, and worse. When will Kofi Annan, George Bush and the African Union (underdeployed in the region), wake up and see that tragedy is not just something happening in Iraq. The DRC is a region that requires action now, not when Iraq has quieted.

I may be ill-informed but I think the DRC has been put on the backburner; it is much more serious than we think!

Since everyone has been screaming that the US should not be the worlds police force, can you explain to me *why* we need to get involved? The UN made the mess, why shouldn't they be the ones to clean it up?

The first sentence of the article is "What is the WORLD going to do." The WORLD. As in the whole of the planet. Not just the US.

And as long as the US is going to insist on policing regimes that don't possess weapons that imminently threaten the world, it might as well police the ones the ones that are breeding grounds for genocide, too. Actually, forget "too"; how about "instead of"

You might just want to reread what was posted *before* you run your mouth.

Yeah, he was mentioned because he's decided that he will be at the forefront of any attempts to rid this planet of evil. This is a position that he has put himself in with his continuous claims; had he not made them, he would not have been mentioned.

The article does not say anything about the US having to get involved any more than any other nation or organization has to get involved. It just gives fitting recognition to a man who obviously wants his face/name/visage plastered over every part of this world; the problem is, he only wants to get involved with the problems that will bring him personal gain. Unfortunately for him, when you profess to want to fight evil, you're gonna get mentioned whenever evil needs to be fought, not only when it needs to be fought and it gives you the opportunity to self-aggrandize.

You should perhaps read what is posted before you decide to talk, and realize that this article is about tragedy in a part of the world, and not about attacking the US. You're getting paranoid.
