Gitmo and Colbert's bias.
Published on June 19, 2008 By adnauseam In US Domestic

I'm not deliberately trying to be controversial but I'm sure many of our readers are sick of Robert Mugabe. So let's add some hot spice and look at one of the most egotistical personalities in television. It's all an act, you say, as it's on a comedy channel! I say it's half act and half serious with Steve Colbert making love to himself while he hammers away at topics that are certainly not comedic.

Last night (Middle East TV), he chose to hammer some judges for deciding that Gitmo inmates have human rights and will possibly go free. Colbert was quite vociferous in his opinions (the man thinks he's an expert on human rights). He asserted that no way should those inmates go free, or receive a hearing. I have now decided to call him Reichsfuhrer Colbert . He would like 400 or so detainees to stay in Gitmo forever. I hope Colbert gets put in the tank one day and thinks about his predicament.

I'm going to sum this guy up in a sentence: He is an asshole! and, by the way, don't comment with "this is comedy". No it's not--it's a swollen headed fool glorifying himself while wallowing in swill. How can an idiot like this command prime  time? Jon Stewart I can swallow, Colbert sticks in my throat.

Here's a second thing you can comment about: Would you like the Gitmo detainees to live in limbo for the next twenty years or so? I've said it before: Put them on trial in a proper way. Stop! There is the slightest chance that McCain may adjust the concentration camp limbo in Cuba and shoot all the bastards.. Obama would certainly get trials going and probably do what is right: Release the Afghan shepherds and swing the real terrorists. Surely, after five years, the CIA and the army can tell the difference?

Last but not least, I refer to an article in last week's Sunday Times (UK). George W. has finally found his legacy! Find Bin Laden before my term expires. Bush has decided to look for a needle in ten haystacks. Is he being serious? Is the man "compos mentis"? I've always thought that GW lives for the moment of glory but it's mainly bullshit." Now at last, at last--I have a dream-- 6 months to go--find Bin Laden." Americans have been undermined by a fool.

Sorry--your pick.

You are right - they should not stay there forever - just until the cessation of hostilities.

adnauseam-

You may or may not know this so I'm writing to assume that you don't. If you do, then my apologies and regardless I do not intend for this to come out the wrong way (condescendingly)

Colbert is about as liberal as they come. The whole point of his show is to make fun of and parody ultra-right wing media hawks like O'reilly (with his show "The O'reilly Factor", Colbert Report, see the similarity?)

His whole on-stage ego is a projection, meant to parody folks like O'reilly and Limbaugh. Take for example when he has guests on the show- entrance music plays for him while he bounds across the stage to his guest waiting off to the side (thus keeping all the attention on him while the guest is simply there as a side show) He then asks ridiculous questions, purposefully interrupts his guests and ridicules anything they say that doesn't fall in lock-step with the official party line. Again, a parody.

Rest assured he is about as anti-Guantanamo as one can get!

To Artysim,

Sorry for the late reply. I get it and I'm naive, of course. However, I still find Colbert a pain in the butt!

I think, with the passing of George Carlin, Stephen Colbert may be the funniest man alive.

You don't believe me? Go watch the 3-part YouTube video of his speech at the White House Correspondents Dinner in 2006.

The man is a genius. Just look at the expression on Bush's face as everything he's done and every policy he's backed is eviscerated.

You've never heard Dylan Moran!
