It's a mess!

I'm stunned that an application has been made for sanctions to be instituted against the Sudan. Is this how the world is going to solve the problem?

We know that the government of Sudan is partly responsible for the genocide and starvation in the Darfour region. We know this because:

* The Janjaweed (Arab militia) is govt. backed.
*The Janjaweed is slowly "cleansing" the non-Arab Darfour region with Govt. help.
* The Janjaweed has no truck with human rights. They are on a cleansing mission.
* In the midst of Janjaweed attacks there have been air sorties gunning down Darfour tribesmen. The Janjaweed have no planes. They were government planes.
* The Janjaweed (as well as the govt.--you bet!), is plundering supplies meant for Darfour refugees.
* The Sudan government, acting like many arrogant and corrupt African states, has threatened to use force against any troops sent into Sudan to assist in alleviating the problem.

So there you have it. We have another Rwanda looming. Why?

Because we trip over ourselves trying to get "discussion" going. We trip over ourselves bullshitting one another that the Sudanese Govt. may be sincere. We trip, blindly, boy how blindly, over microphones, while people starve, die and are subject to inhumane atrocities.

We're tripping up again as in Rwanda. We don't think about how we tripped up over Congo (that's another story). But, there is a lot of dung on the UN, US and UK shoes as we trip up again. Our problem is that we're so obsessed with Iraq (and overcommitted too), that Sudan could be an unneeded expense.

Don't tell me Rwanda was not foreseen. It was,and the Kofi Annan's of this world really need to get some assertion going and not worry about the Bushes of this world--so it doesn't happen again.

But it will. It is!

Who are people afraid of? I can tell you the Darfour people are mightily afraid as they are systematically being wiped out.

Something MUST be done. And don't tell me to stop pleading for Africa. I love this continent.

Somehow, I have a feeling that..... the UN will be deadlocked and unable to do anything except call for more resolutions and commitiees to study the problem without ACTUALLY doing anything about it.

And If...IF the US should step in an do something, as they often feel compeled to do....they will be "wrong" for any action they may take. Of course, if they don't support it with enough money or supplies, they will be blatently ignoring the plight of those in need........
