I think their food is over-rated.

My wife hurt her hand so I decided to order in at the office. I'm fond of McDonalds' fish fillet sandwich so I ordered with fries. I know every Mac is different but the quality here in Cairo is poor. The french fries that came with my fish can only be described as little sticks of greasy, hard, old potato (wood, straw and tooth hurting shrivelled matches come to mind). A French fry or chip, as we call it in South africa, should be fresh, thick and, although a little fatty outside, tender and soft inside.

How do McDonalds get away with serving old fries (prepared for you personally on the ninth, served dreadfully re-fried on the tenth)?

How do they get away with it? Do other Mac outlets serve sub-standard food? Personally I think their food is over-rated and they should be shot for serving fast food that is just production line rubbish.

McDonald's here in my little town is horrid. I've only lived here since Feb. and the poor quality in almost everything is astounding!

The french fries are as you described, not re-fried the next day, however usually not hot as they put them on the tray before one's order is finished being prepared. They're also hard, and not very tasty.

This summer the place was swamped with flies, tables not cleaned after being used, and most of the time the orders were wrong.

Now where I used to live this wasn't the case, save for the frenchfries! McDonald's needs lessons, either change the fries they use ( Burger King is far superior in that field) or drop them off the menu!!!

The sandwiches are poorly assembled as well. I know it's a fast food place, just this one place leaves everything to be desired, well except for their friendliness.

I order fries without salt and they usually make a fresh batch.  Try that next time.

My McDonald's has enough traffic that they're almost always fresh and tasteriffic.

But that's probably due to the traffic.

The ones in my neighborhood too! We have a very high traffic area so no time for food to sit and simmer! But that's awful AD! Euuwee on those french fries!

MCdonalds here in the states do have a very high quality control standard, and every franchise is subject to periodic reviews to ensure they adhere to them.  However, that just means the stuff is cooked to a standard - not that the standard is worth eating (I personally dont like them).  I suspect the standards in other countries are subject to local laws governing what a Franchiser can do and not do to a franchisee.

Yes and no, Dr. Guy. The standard is not well enforced, as I can tell you firsthand.
