He won't go away.

I think I'm going to write a childrens' story about my guppy George. He has to be the strongest guppy I know of. Let me explain: My son and I have shared a fish tank for over a year. We tried guppies and they died like flies. We tried little catfish and they did fairly well for months before turning belly-up too. We tried goldfish and, fortunately, two are still with us --er,that is out of ten original team members.

The surviving member of our guppy family nearly didn't make it. After a good tank clean (or not so good), and, after we had transferred the remaining survivors to a bowl, we discovered, two days later (we take a while to clean a tank!), that a hapless George was swimming around in a filterless, dirty environment--in about 5cm of water. We rescued George (who could easily have been flushed down the basin), and he joined a few goldfish friends, swimming heartily around with renewed vigour.

George is still with us and has a healthy appetite too, I'm pleased to say. He has to be the strongest guppy in the World!

Get some Plakos.  They will help to keep the tank clean.  And best of luck to George!

Heh, I'd buy that book.

I dropped a Betta fish down the garbage disposal once.

Fortunately, it wasn't turned on. He survived the fall and wasn't injured by the blades, but he and his little friend on the other side of the tank died later after a tank cleaning gone wrong (I guess that happens a lot!).

Whatta guppy!

I hope you're not using soap when ya clean that fish tank!

Go for it!  Write a book about the experiences,  for sure keep a journal,  when the kids are older you'll be soooo glad you wrote daily stuff about them and the pets, ect.

One of my favourite authors, Neil Gaiman, has written a story called "The Day I Swapped My Dad For Two Goldfish". I'm sure your son won't be doing this to you, but be careful if he starts eyeing off Koi at the fish shop
