Hurrah! President Ahmedinejad of Iran has found a perfect excuse to hit back at his detractors.Kidnap 15 British marines (who may or may not, have trespassed into his waters -although the Iranians themselves seem confused about the exact co-ordinates), then use them for propaganda and ask the Brits for an apology. This man has an axe to grind and he sure has a strange outlook on global etiquette. He is so embroiled in his oil superiority and nuclear ambitions that he does not realise that, a) if his ships had encountered an alien vessel he should have requested the invading vessel to retreat, and , if his ships had strayed they would have been warned off.

No, no rules of the sea for little Ahmed. He must get jumpy and arrest the interlopers (if they were that), and deny everyone access to his prisoners. Furthermore he wants apologies and bowing and scraping from Britain. This is not how a political game is played. This is petty piracy.

Could we expect anything else from a regime that is known for hanging people from the jibs of tow trucks and forcing women into cowering subservience? I'd be afraid, really afraid, for there are still megalomaniacs on the loose in this World of ours.

On the other hand, perhaps little Ahmed may not want to be seen being compared to the sick little tinpot dictator who rules Zimbabwe. We shall see.

Actually, looking at Chavez, if Mugabe were to get on a real Anti-American/Anglo kick, Little Hitler would become his bossum buddy - not just a hand shake one.

If it was Americans who had been captured, Bush would probably have invaded by now. According to the papers, Blair doesn't seem to be doing much. I've had friends in the past who were Iranian and they seemed to be nice people, but of course thats like saying you've held a grain of sand but not never been on a beach. Iran is well taking the piss (pardon my French) but as long as the politicians can get their ass on on comfy seat at this stage they probably aren't that bothered about Britain being pissed on by Iran at the expense of these poor unfortunate soldiers.

Hopefully those soldiers won't be left in Iranian hands long... (I bet the Iranians will make every excuse to keep them and shit will fly eventually)

I disagree with you here, if you remember when China did something similar 6 years ago it was handled diplomatically, not with the military or even open threats of the military. We got our people back and moved on. The last thing we want to do at this stage is to get into a shooting war with Iran.

Being as Ahmedinejad was involved with the American hostage situation in Iran way back when (I was in the military then), this is no big surprise. Frankly, I'll be surprised if his own people don't eventually revolt against his government and/or assassinate his dumb ass.

Either way, at this point it's a diplomatic situation unless and until those members of the British military are harmed.

Seems to me Dinnie played that card for 444 days. It is not like he does not know how to string this out as long.

Yeah, that's quite true. I'm hoping he's a bit wiser now that he's older. But I'm not holding my breath on it.

I don't think so, given the last interview I saw him on with Diane Sawyer, the man is full of himself!

Ad I agree that he has an axe to grind.

Yea, Forever even wrote a blog on just that. I think someone gave her a labotomy 10 years ago.
