Mugabe feasts.
Published on February 21, 2007 By adnauseam In Current Events
Like Nero in Roman times Robert Mugabe will feast while all around him there is no food for the masses. They will spend 1.2 million American dollars celebrating Mugabe's 83rd birthday and feasting while there is no bread, jam or tinned foods for the Zimbabwean people. The honorable Robert will tuck into lavish food in Gweru (formerly Bulawayo),and Harare, and congratulate himself on a job well done.

Whilst Mugabe tucks into his venison steaks the people he treats as second class citizens are queueing for bread. And there is none. As the 83 year old lifts his knife and fork he is satisfied and self-assured. He has done well for his country--a country with 1600% inflation . A country with no viable farmland, a Zim dollar worth a peanut, and few friends.

People may wonder why I concern myself about such a fool. I have many Zimbabwean friends and they mourn for their country--a country that was a breadbasket, now laid waste. It is a tragedy and a travesty.

I am comforted by the fact that Mugabe has few friends and is becoming worse than a pariah or a polecat. He is the scorpion of Africa. Like a scorpion he stings those within reach first. And he has stung Zimbabwe into pathetic , hungry, sterile submission.

I don't deny the fact that white colonialism has caused a good deal of their problems historically, but what's past is past and nothing can be done to change it.

Agreed!

The warlords eat, the babies starve, and fat Americans see this on TV and open their wallets. The poor children!

What they don't realize is that their efforts to help never reach those children, but simply fatten the pockets of the factions causing all the grief in the first place.

I know! This is what pains me when I see or read about the problems faced by these African countries. It's hard not to want to help, but when you do, do the people actually get the help they need? No they don't! That's why I've not given to any other charities that say they're going to help anymore. I give my money to the Red Cross. At least I know that they do what they say they're going to do.

It irks me that these politicians always pat themselves on the back, gorge themselves while the people who elected them are suffering! And the rebels who are suposed to be doing what they do for the good of the country always end up being the ones who bastardize their own people!

While I completely agree a lot of Africa's strife is self-inflicted, I still feel for the innocents in the equation i.e. the children who have no say, no control and are starving to death by their thousands.
