Is it a sign of a culture gone wild?
Published on January 20, 2007 By adnauseam In Current Events
The latest Big Brother furore in Britain has highlighted an intolerance and vulgarity that is common in parts of Britain. The social decline in values and the insensitivities to others' feelings, whether racist or otherwise, is blatant in Britain today. It is not just a Jade Goody display (the girl who caused the racist problem in Big Brother), it is a British display. There are lots of Jade Goodys and John Baddys in Britain but why are they like that? I don't know and would appreciate comment.

It is extremely worrying in a modern society when a great amount of crimes police have to deal include:

-Binge drinking by teenagers and young adults (aged 12 up).
-Vandalism by young children (aged 8 up).
-Drug consumption by children: aged 13 up.
-Theft by children: aged 8 up.
- Abuse and bullying by children: aged 6 up.
-Assault by children on children/adults: aged 10 up.
-Assault by children (verbal/physical) on teachers: aged 10 up.

These are rough figures, but they are not far off; just Google British crime statistics.

Obviously I left out assaults by adults on children because, although they are extremely serious, it is the youth I am concerned about.

Why is the British youth out of hand?

Your insight please. Am I being too critical?

I am pro spanking - but I agree with you - if you have an issue then you avoid this type of discipline - or it can turn to abuse. Good for you for recognising it and dealing with it - a very responsible attitude.

Well thanks, heh. Most of the responses (seems like all of them) are along the lines of the person/s in question thinking that i'm being too worrysome.

fer cryin out loud let it rest! If it bothers you so much then ignore him and stop trying to belittle the person all the time and grind them into the ground.

And if emp (or LW) bothers you so much, ignore THEM! Practice what you preach! This isn't your thread, jennifer, and you don't have the right to play moderator any more on it than you do on mine.

Sorry to hijack your thread, adnauseam.

WE choose to watch the filth we condemn; they simply supply the goods.

Gid, point taken but I was actually referring to children, who don't know enough to turn off this rubbish. Sure, you and I, as intelligent, informed adults can choose to change channels or turn the bloody thing off, but kids don't have enough experience to know or understand this. Sure, parents should be monitoring what their children watch, but this doesn't necessarily happen all the time.

Parents who neglect their children have NO RIGHT to blame society for their own PERSONAL lack of oversight. I, on the other hand, have a right to watch the shows I want to watch without having to worry about some government censor manning a switch.

Such a blatant attempt to get a flame going Gideon - contemptible behaviour

I was reminding in a NOT BITCHY MANNER - that there is a moratorium on Flamefests and to stay away from it....doing them a favour actually .............but here you are Gideon blatantly moderating someone else's thread...........trying to start a flame festival!

FER as opposed to FOR = the fer indicates a more light hearted and jestful attitude - stop being such a dictatorial fool and mind your own beeswax please...you are so intent on getting your voice heard and stirring the shitty little pottie you forget to actually read how it was put...................may I take this opportunity to remind you.....the owner does not like flamefest so stop trying to start one.

And if you do not believe me check out the thread joeuser = joke user for the language usage of FER.

Ad please feel free to delete this if you so wish, I will not be offended.

We now return you to the regular scheduled program - again our apologies for the interrupted service - enjoy your viewing....

THEN WHY DO IT?

Jennifer,

What I have to say does not belong here. You have email

(response edited. This is about the topic at hand, not this crud).

Dude, I was only kidding...that's it. Nothing meant by it, okay? I don't want to start ruffling feathers, that's why i put the extra bit in. Bygones be bygones, mea culpa, and all that good stuff?

While I agree with you, there are too many examples of 'adults' not taking any responsibilty for their actions and, in some case, through litigation, even seemingly being awarded for their lack of oversight or judgement. What hope have kids got of learning personal responsibility when the news is full of adults NOT being personally responsible.

I want to go back to the point I made about the entertainment industry. I think I probably should have said 'media' as well. Kids these days are bombarded left, right and centre with the idea they should be wearing a particularly brand or some such nonsense. It puts a lot of pressure on kids to be or look a particular way, so much more so than when I was a kid, for sure.

Jennifer, you're a fruitcake, plain and simple. You and Lucas are well suited for each other.

thats rich - from one to another hahahah!

LW - I will always speak out when an unnecessary remark is made - that is what I am prone to. None of you like Silent Poet - I do not have a problem with the man, he is partaking of the thread and not looking for trouble so why dish it out to him just because you are feeling otherwise? Does it cost you anything to pass it over once in a while?

Thank you so much for your humble er um, service....or meddling in others affairs.

dynamaso,

I know this is politically unpopular, but as for the parents who won't take the time to do their job...so what? If their kids grow up to be the helpless losers their parents were, that just creates less competition for my kids in the workforce. If we want the government to be our "nanny", and demand they run our homes, that's the quick road to tyranny.

I don't CARE about the kids in the balance, dynamaso. I had to stand on my own two feet, they should have to stand on theirs. It's not the government's job to see to it that they are raised to be responsible, productive adults. Contrary to Ms. Clinton's assertion, it does NOT take a village, but rather, responsible parenting.

Some good things come from thread hijacking. Like points. I'm not a points whore per se, but why look a gift horse in the mouth?

And here we thought mean ol' jennifer spoke for you, trying to run us off as she did.

No, silly, she thinks she's admin for the whole SITE.

She took Brad's reinstatement as a carte blanche to up the stakes. oh well. She has ended up being one of the most universally disliked people on here.
