Cry The Beloved Countries.
I have neglected African news for a while so here are some headlines and comments:
Zimbabwe: President Ahmadinejad vows to take "Bullying Countries" to task for their shameful treatment of Zimbabwe. I think you got the wrong end of the stick Mr President: Robert Mugabe is the biggest bully in the Southern African region! Comrade Robert is signing trade agreements with Iran as I write. Is it a case of :First the Chinese planes, now the Hillman Taxis, Mr M.? Are you perhaps employing a lot of mechanics these days?
Somalia: I heard on the news that thousands have been affected by flooding but that there is no government to help them. I heard right. There is no functioning government in Somalia. In fact there is nothing more in Somalia other than flooded people, thousands of AK47's and NO assistance from the outside World . We cannot blame the UN--the country is a war zone dominated by war lords and it is probably the most dangerous country on Earth.
Kenya: British Soldiers shoot Rhino. A Kudu is much tastier Jock!
Angola: News reports say that Angola is the largest supplier of oil to China. The country is the second biggest oil producer in Africa, after Nigeria. Pity the wealth doesn't filter through to the poor!
Sudan: On again/off again. The illustrious rulers of Sudan are still ruminating over whether to allow UN Peacekeepers into Darfur. It seems they are nervous about any having any foreigners "invade" the country. Hope they are just as nervous when they visit The Hague in a few years time. The Sudanese Government isas criminal as they come.
Zambia: Ex-President Chiluba (being investigated for corruption), has been forbidden from visiting South Africa where he seeks medical care. For goodness sake, let the old man spend a few Rands.
Africa bids you good night. Please blow out the candle.
