What are the mobile's possibilities?
Published on November 18, 2006 By adnauseam In Blogging
Where are we going with mobiles? While I read that these little gadgets we use for phone calls are getting more sophisticated, I wonder if technology will turn them into horrendous little packages that govern our entire lives . Modern mobile phones are getting close to my digital camera's capability of 5 megapixels. Will the camera become defunct? And, modern phones do video and caller to caller live online. Will the landline die out?

I shall no longer require a stereo set/ mp3 or mp4. They're built in, or will be. Will I dump my state of the art Bose? Should I even worry about a computer anymore as the Super Dooper Blackberry will be here next ? Is my whole life going to be ruled by a package the size of two cigarette packs?

Well, I have news for the techno-wizards in Japan and Korea. There is no way I want to Google on a screen the size of a 100 dollar note nor do I want to watch TV that way. Stop. TVs are getting bigger and so are computer monitors. I am confused--are we looking at a World where bigger is better and smaller is better? I have definitely lost my way. Next thing they'll be telling me to throw out my fishtank . What a relief--I won't have to buy fish food!

Actually...the mobile will now be inserted directly into your skull and your eyes will be the display. Just hope you don't get popups if you're walking around or it's going to end in pain.

! You're too funny!

I enjoyed your article Adnauseam, it was amusing and yet so serious at the same time! I hear ya about the confusion. Why are TV and Computer getting bigger and the cell phones getting smaller, yet they can do so much more now? Hmmmm....I too do not wish to watch television on a screen as small as a dollar bill!

BTW, didn't you know there are already fake fish tanks with fake fishes around? Yep, they even have them as screen savers too!

I like my mobile. I like that it has a half-decent camera in it. Having said that, I do understand what you're saying. I made sure the laptop I recently purchased had a decent sized screen and a regularly sized keyboard. I have had problems with some phones where the numbers are so small I end up pressing two at a time. It is frustrating.

Ideally, I think technology doesn't need to get any smaller, just smarter. I like the idea of having a single unit that is my phone, address book, camera, music player etc. I also like large screen tellies.

I think it is living with the best of both worlds. But don't get rid of your fishtank yet.

The next step will indeed likely be Borg implants to do it all for you. You'll even be able to receive a fax wirelessly, but I hate to think where it will come out.

Yes, I've wondered where it will end...that is if it does.

Makes you wonder...if we don't blow ourselves up first and, in say, a million years or so, what will have evolved by then? Will humans even exist or will this be a machine's world? Hmmmm.....
