How do we rid ourselves of these pesky critters?
Published on September 25, 2006 By adnauseam In Blogging
My Lycos mail site has just been upgraded and less spam is coming through. However, there are people with devious means who manage to override it. Here are three examples:

1. ₣№‼ﭏ♪ƠǼǖǘư
And:
2.♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♥♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦
And:
3. From: Auction Manager: Your property is about to be put up for auction.

1 and 2 are obviously using symbols and my blocker is not detecting them OR what?
3. The more personal No 3 (example above), gets the more spam comes through. How?

So, what happens? I spend minutes every day deleting spam with strange symbols and shapes.

I can get rid of them but why does my blocker allow them through? And, what other devious means are they thinking of right now?

Spammers are a pain the rear and it would be great to be totally rid of them! Like you no matter how many times I block or do something to safeguard receiving their sometimes rude and crude messages, they still come through! I stopped stressing over them and just don't even open them. Maybe they'll get the message.

There is no way a piece of software can identify every possible piece of spam without also blocking a lot of stuff you actually want. Most spam blockers can be "trained" in some manner or other depending on how it's set up.

I have mine set up so that it will only allow mail from addresses I have put in as trusted. All others go to a junk bin. But that's my direct mail. Using a web based mailbox or your isp mail you have to deal with whatever tools they provide.
