Came across this article by Jim Mannion on iAfrica. com and it reports that the USA's troops are at their most un-prepared since the end of the Vietnam war. Comments welcome. Link to the general link below.

Makes sense.

Using the armed forces depletes their resources. All those armories full of ammo get emptied out. All those well-maintained vehicles swap out their weekly preventive maintenance sessions for hard use in harsh conditions. Trained men and women get burnt out, used up, and even killed.

It's part of the natural and healthy cycle of a military organization: During peace time, it prepares for war. During war time, it exploits those preparations and makes use of all that was prepared.

During the next peace time, we will again replenish the stockpiles, replace the equipment, and recruit more soldiers.

Might as well say that your car's gas tank is at its most empty since the last time you drove somewhere.
