It won't happen, I know, but I can hope!
In drawing up my wish list I decided to concentrate on those people who are not living up to expectations for the good of the World and those who may be able to help make things better. S0, I wish that:
* Donald Rumsfeld would get off his arse and work out, with his Generals, a way to prevent suicide bombers getting through to aspirant new police/army recruits in Iraq and, more importantly, how to protect innocent civilians from being blown up (I am deadly serious--I know it is difficult, nigh impossible, to stop a radical attack, but more measures must be put in place.)
* I am concerned when Koffi Annan worries more about HIV/Aids than he does about the rampant violence in DR Congo, Somalia and Darfur, Sudan. I wish Koffi would get his priorities right: I agree that HIV/Aids is a massive problem in Africa. I think the Genocide being committed in Darfur, DR Congo and the lawlessness in Somalia is more pressing!
* I would like to see Bill Clinton as Secretary General of the United Nations. I agree (for once), with Tony Blair, that the UN needs a complete shake-up. I believe Koffi Annan has nothing more to add to the UN charter than shallow 'softly speak'.
* I would like to see a US Secretary Of State similar to Madeleine Albright than a Condi Rice who talks "Bush Speak" and does flashing teeth. I'd like to see a person who says to Ahmedinejad: ' OK, we're committed in Iraq but we have the capability of hitiing you hard without too many troops being involved!'
* I would like to see a man who can lead the troops out of Iraq and leave behind some semblance of governance and integrity.
Sounds like wishful thinking doesn't it? Probably is.
