Please give your views on life!

I try to lead my life along certain guidelines. Not because I want to be perfect or have a clear conscience. The rules I live by have been formed by my life experience. It has taken
almost sixty years to realise that I am basically a mammal with an advanced brain ---and I need to explore that brain to improve my life and that of those around me.
I have sinned (if you can call it that), by hurting people, by being selfish and by being unfeeling. I have provoked turmoil, unhappiness and insecurity within my family . I have not always
been a good boy. Now that I'm older I'm trying to right wrongs and seek peace. These are the guidelines I live by now (and they form my philosophy of living the way I think I should live):

- I try to consider the feelings of others.
- I try to make others feel special with kind words or praise or a cheery greeting.
- I try to give money to the poor.
- I try to keep peace in my home by being reasonable and avoiding conflict. (where there is conflict I try to be understanding and diplomatic).
- I try to thank God that I have been married for 35 years to a special person-- whose smile and tenderness still melts my heart.
- I try to give money to animal welfare because I, my wife and children have lived with special pets all their lives--and have an inbuilt empathy for any animal that is neglected
or cruelly treated (that is another long story entirely).
- As a boss (!) I try to consider the feelings of my staff and try to be fair.
- I thank God every day for holding my hand (and I don't question His existence), because He pulled me from a black hole at a very bad time.

No , I'm not perfect and will never be, but I think after all these, years, I'm moving onto the right track at last. Please don't accuse me of being smug. What do the
Joeusers think?

Joeusers, if you have the same philosophy or feelings please blog along!

I think you have acquired the wisdom that only comes with age and experience.  If there are those that want to call it smugness, then we should all strive to be smug.

Well said and something for us all to strive for. We can never go wrong doing right. We are all works in progress and cannot be made perfect this side of eternity.
